Sugo Mi
Pizza is often dismissed as fast food. There’s no doubt that it is an excellent family fall back for many of us when we’re looking to dine out with the kids. Sugo Mi however, is no fall back position – it’s front and centre when it comes to eating out in Oxford Street , kids or no kids.
The pizza is all about the base – it’s light as a feather and head and shoulders over any other pizza base found in a ‘family restaurant’. And I use the term, ‘family restaurant’ with respect rather than derision. The toppings are used sparingly but with excellent quality ingredients. Plenty of fresh herbs abound and its famous ‘sugo’ sauce is generous without overpowering the other elements of traditional pizza toppings. The best news is that you can buy the bases from their deli shop down the side of the restaurant so enjoy great pizza at home – a great way to get the kids to cook for you with a guaranteed edible outcome.
If you do happen to take the kids you can rest assured they are more than welcome. There is a good menu for ‘Bambinis’ which includes a drink and sweet but most importantly, the children are catered for with a good supply of colouring in print-outs and well used pencil cases brimming with good, useable pencils and crayons.
Sugo Mi is not just pizza nor just for families, it must be noted. The beauty of it is that as the evening progresses so does its clientele from first dates nibbling salads and designer beers through to middle age couples and book clubs sharing pasta and chianti. But let’s face it, who doesn’t love pizza?
