MUD Tapas & Dessert Bar
For some reason, I have never ventured into MUD Tapas & Dessert Bar on Oxford Street. I’d heard good things but it never really appealed but then again, I suspect that the bar is more for night owls and the after cinema crowd than my ‘set’.
However, I was entertaining a friend from Sydney this weekend who decided that a late brekkie was in order and she suggested that we try Mud. Perhaps because it was such a beautiful, bright winter’s day the dark interior seemed a bit ‘grunge’ when we got inside. The waiter was quick to seat us but then left us to our own devices. Luckily, we had a lot to catch up on.
Sunday mornings are always busy times in cafes but there is a fine line between understanding a venue is at full volume and feeling that the service was unsatisfactory. In this instance, Mud Tapas & Dessert Bar unfortunately fell into the latter category. To add insult to injury, the waiter managed to kick my seat not once but three times as he passed me without a word each time. Am I being precious? Perhaps, or maybe I have been spoilt by the many other restaurants in the area that try a smidge harder.
Breakfast when it arrived was OK – not exceptional in any way but generous in size and hot. The malted milkshake, however ,was not malted and decidedly thin. I had thought a dessert bar would offer a good milkshake but this one paled into insignificance compared to a recent one tasted at Pearl Cafe in Logan Road.
Would I go back? Not for breakfast but I believe in second chances and perhaps the tapas could convince me that my breakfast was an aberration … If you’re a regular, tell me your thoughts or why you think I should give Mud Tapas & Dessert Bar another go!
